Service was great. Ambiance was nice. Food and drink were on point. Went here for brunch with my friend on a Saturday around 12. A lot of brunch places typically have a 1-2 hr wait so I was pleasantly surprised to not have to wait at all. I think our servers name was Bree? She was super attentive and friendly. Gave recommendations and even let me try a tequila I had not heard of for one of my drinks. As for food, I ordered the pork belly benedict with a side of hashbrowns and the churro waffle. Let me just say the churro waffle was so good! It had a nice crunch, not overbearing dulce de leche flavor, and perfect amount of "churro." The pork belly benedict was good, I just wish the pork belly had more of a crisp to it. I would definitely come back here!

The overview - service was ok, atmosphere was great, food was unreal. Now let's get into the details. Our waitress was friendly but really quiet and hard to hear. That's no dig on her but that sort of set up the evening with her. We had some incorrect drinks and service was a little slow in the beginning. Overall, by no means was it bad, just felt would've liked to put in apps a little quicker. Atmosphere is very cool - the place wasn't packed but it was the right level of loud. They have an outdoor patio that I imagine is amazing in spring and fall here. The decor is definitely cool, it was like a modern time capsule of sorts. My wife and I sat at a big round table booth just the two of us and it was quite cozy. Overall, very solid, I liked it. Food - holy crap man. First the chips and salsa - I think it's fair to say you can tell if a Mexican place is good based on just their salsa. Theirs was very good, the mild was not for me but the green and the spicy both were excellent. The spicy could've been dialed up a little more for me but I like a hot salsa. You could taste the chili tang but it wasn't overbearing with a nice after taste "bite". We also had margaritas and same deal, pretty key here... They were amazing. Prickly pear Margarita is pretty much the only way to go. I'd have had 3 if I didn't have to drive... Onto the entrees - for reference, I had tacos at my wedding that family and I still talk about every once in awhile and it's been years. The tacos I had here were nearly as good (that's saying a lot). My barbacoa was insanely juicy with a nice sauce to go with it. It was missing a little something but i couldn't tell you what. The meat was salty and savory, the veggies were super fresh. I learned I like radishes eating my tacos! My wife had the fried cod tacos and holy crap, they were even better than mine. I think it had diced pineapple on top and it was so delicious, the tang with that juicy fry of fish. The chipotle sauce on top was also absolutely delicious. We also had cowboy beans and Spanish rice for sides. Spanish rice was very good but the cowboy beans were excellent. I don't even like pinto beans and I polished them off. My wife also got Tres Leches cake. Personally, I'm not a fan but she said it was the best she's ever had and she is pretty obsessed with it whenever she can find it. Overall, excellent place and I will definitely be coming back. Possibly the best meal I've had eating out in several months.

Came to Alma Scottsdale after searching "Taco" in the Yelp app. Alma did not disappoint! I visited with my cousins (5 of us total) and we were seated immediately. Alma Scottsdale has an extensive outdoor patio with fans and misters as well as inside seating. The decor and ambiance is stylish and inviting. We chose to sit inside. Cameron was our server and he was AWESOME! He was knowledgeable about the menu, kind, and very attentive. It was happy hour so we ordered margaritas. I ordered the spicy margarita which was well done with the right amount of spiciness that balanced well with the drink. The food was delicious! I had an order of pork tacos and a soft shell crab tostada. Everyone enjoyed their food. Definitely will visit when I'm back in the Phoenix area!

I heard about Alma from some of my friends, so I wanted to go try them out. I went with a few friends this past weekend for brunch and all in all I was pretty happy with their food and service. They have a pretty big brunch menu with different choices of drinks and food. My friend and I got the mimosa kit which was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. It was one champagne bottle (6 dollars at Fry's) that's supposed to serve 4 and 4 juices for 40 dollars. Bit pricey for what it actually is but the other drinks were good. I ordered their steak and eggs and both were cooked really well. The steak had this chimichurri sauce drizzled over it that amplified its flavor and the hashbrowns were fried well. My friend got their chilaquiles and they tasted delicious as well. The staff were decent. I felt like they could have checked in on us a bit more often but at the same time we didn't feel neglected. They're located in the back of a plaza so it's a little hard to find but in my opinion the search is worth it. The restaurant has an upscale feel to it and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall I would recommend this place to a friend and I plan on coming back to try their dinner menu.

My hubby and I were planning to go to Sushi Sen for date night, but the place was crazy busy due to their happy hour. We decided to try Alma instead, and we were not disappointed. The outdoor seating area looked inviting, but we opted for a cozy spot inside. The restaurant is super classy and well-decorated, with plenty of space so you don't feel cramped. Our waitress was lovely and gave us the lowdown that they have happy hour every day, but it's only for the bar area. We sipped on a Margarita and a mojito while diving into Softshell crab tostada, lobster quesadilla, fried cod taco, and flat iron steak. The food was not only beautifully presented but also incredibly delicious. We can now proudly tick Alma off our Must-Try Restaurants List and will definitely be returning to explore more dishes.

The good: This restaurant is surprisingly HUGE. When I mean it was unexpected, it's definitely unexpected. Located in a high end shopping plaza on the corner of Indian Bend and Scottsdale Road (directly adjacent to McCormick Ranch Golf Course), Alma is tucked back off the road and parking lot. They have a massive patio and a well decorated interior (very Southwestern Cowboy/Vaquero vibes with lots of greenery and intimate seating areas). The not so good: The food left us unimpressed. Not in a "we would never return" way but more of a "we expected better but maybe we just ordered wrong" sort of way. While everyone at the table raved about the esquites, the guacamole and bacon tater tots were just...flat. Pomegranate in the guac was a nice touch and the bacon jam/jelly with the bacon tater tots was wonderful, however the guac lacked that umami/salt component to give it that extra punch and the bacon tater tots were dense, without a lot of bacon flavor. My children, wife, and in-laws all got tacos which were consumed rather quickly while I got the bacon pork chop that I'd been looking forward to for days. The best part of the pork chop? The small sweet potato pie and charred veggies it was served with. The pork chop (again) was missing consistent flavor. Most of it was juicy, but just lacking punch. There were also portions that were dry, but nothing overall was "horrible". We took the pork chop home along with the veggies and sliced it ultra thin for tacos. Overall, we'd return but I will steer clear of the pork chop. This would be a great place for happy hour with friends. It also looked like a lot of birthdays were being celebrated while we were there (my daughter's was one of them). They have a robust tequila and mezcal selection as well.
